Fireflies AI pricing: why your AI credits are a one-time grant

Fireflies’ pricing page lists “20 AI credits” on the Pro plan and “30 AI credits” on Business, right next to storage limits and seat counts, styled exactly like every other row in the table. It reads like a monthly allowance. It isn’t one. Those credits land once, when you sign up, and then they’re gone for good — the plan doesn’t top them back up next month.
The tiers
Per seat, per month, US pricing in USD. Checked on fireflies.ai/pricing, 22 August 2026, toggling the annual/monthly switch to confirm both numbers.

Annual billing saves 44% on Pro ($10 vs. $18) and about 35% on Business ($19 vs. $29) — Fireflies shows the annual number by default, and you have to flip a toggle to see what you’d actually pay month to month. Transcription itself is unlimited on every paid tier. The credits aren’t gating that. They’re gating a separate bucket of AI features layered on top.
What the credits actually pay for
Transcription, summaries, and recap emails are free on every plan — Fireflies says this outright in its own help docs. AI credits only cover the extras: AI Skills templates (BANT, MEDDIC, interview scorecards), the Personal Assistant bundle (Daily Digest, Meeting Prep), Voice Agents, Sales Assist, Slack Assistant queries, custom summary sections, and AskFred during a live call. Fireflies also charges credits dynamically per query — a short request costs less than a complex one, and the page doesn’t publish a per-feature rate, so you can’t budget it precisely in advance.
The part that isn’t on the pricing page
Here’s the actual gap. Fireflies’ own knowledge base (guide.fireflies.ai) says it plainly: “Every Fireflies account includes one-time AI credits based on your plan.” Not monthly. One-time. Upgrade from Free to Business and your new 30 credits replace the old 20 — they don’t stack, and the 20 you had don’t carry over unused.
Run out, and paid users don’t hit a wall. Fireflies auto-subscribes you to a recurring credit add-on to keep AI features working, and that subscription does renew every month unless you go pause it:

Notice the per-credit rate drops as the bundle grows — $0.10 at the bottom, $0.06 at the top — so a team that burns through credits fast pays less per credit than one that buys the smallest add-on repeatedly. Either way, this add-on is a second, separate charge on top of your seat price, and it starts automatically the moment your one-time grant runs dry. If nobody on the team notices, the bill just grows.
Free plan: same trap, no warning
Free users get the same one-time 20 credits at signup. There’s no auto-add-on option for them — Fireflies shows a paywall instead and prompts an upgrade. So on a paid plan, running out means a silent recurring charge; on Free, it means AI features just stop working until you upgrade. Neither behavior is obvious from the pricing page, where the credit count sits next to “unlimited transcription” like it’s part of the same simple deal.
The affiliate program, honestly
Fireflies runs a real self-serve affiliate program at fireflies.ai/affiliate: up to 30% recurring commission for 12 months on a referred purchase, paid via PayPal once you clear a $50 minimum, with a 90-day window for the referred user to buy after clicking your link. It’s confirmed and self-serve — no application gate, unlike Zapier’s partner-only program. The “up to” matters, though: Fireflies doesn’t publish the tiers that get you from the base rate to 30%, so don’t assume every referral pays the top rate.
What it actually costs you
Seat price is the easy part to budget — $10 to $39 per seat per month depending on tier and billing cycle, all clearly listed. The number that actually catches teams off guard is the AI credits line, because it looks like every other row in the table and behaves nothing like it. Read “20 AI credits” as a signup bonus, not a monthly quota, and check whether your team has AI Skills, Voice Agents, or the Personal Assistant bundle turned on before you assume the seat price is the whole bill.
